I've given up trying to track changes in the Patent Office's website. Try looking for a patent search page, starting at http://patents.uspto.gov/. Note that if you do an inventor search for "Savitzky" you'll also turn up what is believed to be the first software patent, #4,365,303, which my father and his colleagues received in 1980. If you're lucky, this search might work.
